CITIES 2019 Workshops

In addition to International Seminars, CITIES 2019 organizes workshops. The workshops are intended to provide opportunities for CITIES 2019 participants to improve their competencies. The workshops will be held on the second day of CITIES 2019 activities. The themes of the Workshop / Training offered are as follows:

1.      Open Street Maps

Technological development requires practitioners (planners) to be able to master the use of open source mapping applications based on Geographic Information Systems and webGIS. OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a web-based project for making the world map free and open, built entirely by volunteers by conducting surveys using GPS, digitizing satellite imagery, and gathering and freeing geographic data available in public

2.      Petabencana.id

PetaBencana.id utilizes the power of social media to collect, sort, and display flood information in real-time. PetaBencana.id is a project initiated by the Humanitarian Infrastructures Group at MIT which aims to develop CogniCity Open Source Software (CogniCity OSS) as a free and open platform for disaster management in major cities in South and Southeast Asia. This platform uses the “human as the best sensor” paradigm, where confirmed reports are collected directly from users in the field, with methods that allow fast data processing at minimum costs. This framework produces real-time and accurate data, which is immediately available to authorized users and emergency officers.

3.      ESRI Indonesia

ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute) is a supplier company for international Geographic Information System software, web-based GIS, and geodatabase management. The Esri Center is in the cities of Redlands, California. The name ArcGIS is used to name software products, which operate on desktops, servers and mobile devices. ArcGIS also includes internet-based product and service developers. In a general sense, the term GIS describes all information that integrates, stores, changes, analyzes, shares, and displays geographic information to inform decision making. Some ArcGIS products include ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Mobile, ArcGIS Developer, and ArcGIS Online.

4.      LanduseSim

LanduseSim is software that can predict regional development and land use changes through GIS-based spatial simulation and Cellular Automata. At present, the need for understanding the dynamics of land use is high due to the increase in human activity in a region. The dynamics can take the forms of population, economy, disaster, land use change, or government policy dynamics. Inappropriate interpretations cause adverse impacts in the future, thus requiring accurate and rapid observations and predictions. Through this training, participants are expected to understand spatial changes and potential factors that influence these changes.
